Charleen Smuts is operating as sole-proprietor trading as Ecofluence Consulting, based in Cape Town. As a Botanist, General Terrestrial Ecologist and Wetland Scientist, Charleen has worked in neighbouring country, Lesotho and extensively in various parts of South Africa.


Experience

Charleen obtained a Master of Science from the University of Pretoria in 2012 and brings 14 years of professional experience in the environmental sector. She has been actively involved in numerous legislated environmental processes across South Africa. Her work spans a diverse client base, including construction firms, industries, consultants, developers, architects, conservation organizations, and government departments.

She has successfully project managed a wide range of engineering, strategic, and conservation projects, while also offering specialist expertise in wetland and ecological assessments. Charleen is highly skilled in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and has contributed to various large- and small-scale mapping projects. Her experience reflects a consistent ability to generate high-quality, data-rich outputs that support informed and sustainable decision-making.

  • Chair of the newly established Eerste-Kuils River Catchment Management Forum (CMF), the second largest catchment in the City of Cape Town
  • Steering committee member of the Western Cape Wetlands Forum (WCWF); and
  • A member of the South African Affiliate of the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIAsa), South African Association of Botanists (SAAB) and the South Africa Wetland Society (SAWS).
